Plan B

This is emergency contraceptive, the first tablet should be taken with in 3 days of intercourse and the second tablet should be taken 12 hours later. It is effective in preventing pregnancy and is 99% effective if taken properly. It is more effective if it is taken immediately after unprotected sex. It is marketed in the name of i-pill.

Side effects of Plan B

• Nausea.
• Abdominal pain.
• Fatigue.
• Headache.
• Menstrual changes.

Copper intrauterine contraceptive devices

It is another type of emergency contraceptives. It should be inserted with in five days of unprotected sex. It is also 99% effective. It can be removed after the next menstrual period or can be kept up to 10years depending on the type.

Mifeprostone: It can also be used. It is an anti-hormonal drug. It do not contain estrogen or progestins. It prevents implantation of the fertilized egg and also causes abortion of already implanted ovum.
