Is Paxil Effective For Bipolar Disorder?

I am a female, 47 yrs old, and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder some years ago. I cannot seem to find the right meds or combination of meds to help bring me and keep me where I need to be mental health wise. Currently, I am taking Abilify 2mg, citalopram 40mg and wellbutrin 300 mg. I am still having suicidal thoughts frequently. My sister took Pxil and said it did great for her. Do you think Paxil would be able to help me?

HI
Thanks for using healthcare magic

In bipolar disorder, mood stabilizer is also needed and without that, chances of mood swing would be high. You can take llithium or valproate as mood stabilizer. Paxil as an antidepressant is very effective and has good response in bipolar depression, so there is nothing to harm in taking it. Rest consult with your psychiatrist.

Thanks
