Hi Christinaperdue, There are two stages of HIV infection acute infection (also known as primary infection), and AIDS. Symptoms fever, swollen lymph nodes, inflammation of the throat, rash, muscle pain, malaise, and mouth and esophageal sores. In Latency stage few or no symptoms and can last anywhere from two weeks to twenty years or more. Late stage is AIDS. Hope this helps Dr.A Dubey M.D.
