Non Insulin Diabetic. Has Diverticulosis Throughout Colon. Experiencing Severe Loss Of Blood. Diet Recommendations?

My mom is a non-insulin diabetic and has diverticulosis throughout her colon. She is in the hospital currently because for the first time she is experiencing severe loss of blood with many blood clots. After an emergency colonoscopy the gastroenterologist couldn't find the source of the bleed. I was wondering what dietary needs could we change to improve her diverticulosis but keep her diabetes in check. Thank you.

Hello

Thanks for the query

If colonoscopy could not find the source of the bleed then the next step is to do an endoscopy, if that also has not found the source then a capsule endoscopy can be tried. However in presence of a diverticula it might be a relative contraindication

Here are my dietary suggestions
1. Drink atleast 8 glasses of water a day
2. Let her have a fibre rich diet, full of green leafy vegetables and fruits
3. Syp Duphalac 15 ml at night should help her pass looser stools
4. Avoid spicy food items, milk and milk products

I wish her good health and a speedy recovery
