Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Measles is a viral disease and there is no drug to act agains the measles virus, but this disease is known for many complications like pneumonia, diarrhea, middle ear infections, and flaring up of tuberculosis and rarely neurological complications.
If secondary bacterial infections and the above complications are managed well, the measles can be treated effectively and the cure rates are high as the supportive treatment, antibiotics and nutrition management is crucial in treatment.
Measle can be effectively prevented by measle vaccination and followed by boost up the vaccination with MMR vaccinations.
Hope i have answered your query.

Pediatrician, Cardiology Dr. Pradeep Kumar Jain's  Response
Hello
Measles is a vaccine preventable disease. Even measles disease can be prevented in unvaccinated person if vaccine is taken within 3 days of contact with a patient suffering from measles.
Vaccine efficacy and immunogenicity is best when administered at or after 12 month of age.
In India recommended age is 9 month as incidence of measles in unvaccinated infants has been found. During measles epidemic vaccine can be administered as early as6 months of age. Before 6 months mother's antibodies provide the immunity.
MMR vaccine has a component of measles vaccine. It provides life long immunity. Vaccine failure is less than 10 percent.
So beside vaccination there is no specific treatment for measles.
There can be various complications like febrile seizure, diarrhea, otitis media. All these need symptomatic treatment only.

Hi
Thanks for your query,
Measles is preventable disease ,we give measles vaccine at 9 months of age followed by MMR at 15 months and second booster at 5 years of age,
Measles is not a dangerous disease but problems are due to complications associated with it
Pneumonia, encephalitis.otitis media which needs to be treated accordingly.
Patient needs symptomatic treatment, nutritious diet, and management of complications if any.
