Suggest Diet Changes To Avoid Recurring Abdominal Adhesions

Hello, I have been experiencing abdominal adhesions for a year now. I have had 2 very bad experiences. They last 4-5 days. During that period of time I maintain a clear liquid diet until the pain goes away. My doctor does not have much information for me other than if I am running a fever or become constipated or am bleeding I must go to the emergency room immediately. He says that what usually triggers an attack is something in my diet. So far I have eliminated cabbage, corn and baked potato skins. These are things that I think may be to blame. I don t know if I should be eliminating other foods or if I should have one day a week that I have a liquid diet or what I should be doing. Should I be consulting a gastro doctor for more info? I know the I do not want another surgery because that is what causes adhesions. Please help me.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi. Thanks for a good history and understanding you have.
First of all I would suggest you to go for a test called ENTEROCLYSIS. This will give an idea of a form of adhesions you have. If there is just a band or only a few kinking , then a minimally invasive surgery like laparoscopy would treat you effectively and without further adhesions.

Well, your question: the diet : First of all you have to remember that any food you take has to be chewed properly. If you make a paste in mouth the chances of any food causing / precipitating obstruction is reduced. The probable foods with very high fiber contents are know to cause obstruction. So avoid green leafy vegetables. Constipation must be taken care of daily. Drink plenty of water daily. Stop CO2 containing beverages and those which produce gases.
