Radical Prostatectomy Done. Swollen Abdomen. Fluid Leakage From The Incision. Any Ideas?

Hi Dr. I had a radical prostatectomy May 2nd via robotic, it took 7-8 days to have a bm. it is now 10 days post op, and bm's are fine but I still have very swolen abdomial distension, no pain no fever, some leakage from one wound site. When will the severe abdominal swelling go down, I look like I have a large tire around my waist, though distorted looking. Thank you

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

Laparoscopic robot-assisted prostatectomy is a good procedure. But healing time and time to normal activity is a little longer than other procedures like open surgery.

Swelling is normally seen and should completely subside within 15-21 days after the surgery. Do not worry.

Let me list a few items from the timeline after the surgery:
-Time to normal activity--9 days
-Time to start driving -- 13 days
-Time to 100% activity -- 21 days

As mentioned above, you can also go through the below given link:

If required, you could discuss the addition of an anti-inflammatory drug to your treatment regimen. But, in my opinion, it is best to go about a natural recovery, without rushing it.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
