Is This Bronchitis?

My mother who is 74 years old has had a persistant cough for the last six months. She has had an x-ray which came back clear. She had a course of anti biotics which didn't work and an anti-histamine spray. Her doctor has said it is caused by the medication she takes for high blood pressure so she had a change of meds. The cough subsided for a while. Last night she had another coughing fit with wheezing. We called the emergency doctor out who diagnosed bronchitis. He prescribed steroids, and two types of anti biotics. Does this sound right? I am amazed that this has been missed for 6 months. She hasn't had the cough every day for the last 6 months but on and off. It can be triggered by going out in cold weather, eating or drinking something cold and most recently, if she eats greasy food. Her cough produces phlegm which is clear. Her cough goes away once she has been able to clear the phlegm. I am concerned that she has been given the wrong diagnosis again and having to take strong medication for nothing

Your mother seems to be suffering from asthma and or COPD. Get a PFT done. She should be put on inhaler steroids. She will require two types of steroids like seroflo and combimist. She should also take tablet of montair lc and two tablets of doxyphyllin 400 mgm twici a day. Give her a tablet of pantaprazole as well. With this line of treatment, she shuold improve gradually.
