What Is The Cause Of Mollarets Meningitis ?

Hi, my husband has over the past month had two really strange incidents when getting out of the bath. he comes over really glazed, drops to the floor and his body convulses, not much, but noticeble. On the second occasio, his jaw was clenched and he was salivating He was diagnosed with mollarets meningitis last year and had a mri scan also. I m very concerned that there is something underlying thats causing this. Can anyone help?

Hello Tracy,
The 2 episodes described by you here are suggestive of seizures. If these are first episodes experienced by your husband he will need detailed workup including an EEG and MRI of Brain as to ascertain the cause of seizures. Your doctor is also likely to start him on antiepileptic medication to prevent future episodes as the likelyhood of recurrence is higher as he already had 2 episodes of seizures.
Some of the cause of seizures include Infection in the brain, Tumors in the brain, Congenital malformations, Metabolic derangements like Hypoglycemia, Hyponatremia, Hyperthyroidism etc. It is difficult to link the present episodes to his previous meningitis before investigations.
