Good pm doctors, what is the success rate of Combines Oral Contraceptive like Nordette as ECP to prevent pregnancy ? when used it within 72 hours of unprotected sex and 12 hrs again after the 1st dosage. Can it cause delay of the menstrual period ? thank you..

The success of Nordett as emergency contraceptive pill is same as any other ECP because it is a hormonal pill.It is successful but the better option is that if you are sexually active and if it is required to be used more than once a month then you should use Nordett as a regular contraceptive pill and it should be taken daily.

Hi,
The success rate of combined emmergency pills ,when taken in proper time(as you have taken) is fairly high. (though not100%.)the comming periods can be late .so advice is to wait for normal periods for3 to 4 wks maximum .in case there is no bleeding better toseek expert advice &MTP thereafter.

the comming period can be late, so advice is to wait for nomal periods for 3 days to 4days? you mean that its ok to wait up to 4weeks maximum delay?

emmergency contraceptive pill acts by delaying ovulation.so depending on the phase of cycle it was taken,delay for period will vary from nil to maximum2 to 3 wks.
so one can expect menses till 3 wks of taking Emmergency pill.
