hi, congenital cataracts are cataracts which are present from birth or appear shortly after. They may be genetic or they may be caused by congenital infections such as rubella, or associated with diseases like galactosemia.
The cataract can be caused by diabetes, an injury to the eye, exposure to ultraviolet light from sunlight, medication use, such as long-term use of steroids, smoking, heavy drinking, family history of cataracts, eating too much or too little, not eating a healthy, balanced diet and dehydration.
cataracts are congenital or developmental, which start during intra uterine life due to infections or drug intake by mother,or acquired that is later in life due to injury, diabetes or aging. It is basically denaturization of protein of lens
Cataract means opacification of lens, the normally aligned lens fibres undergo structural changes and become opaque and some pigments start accumulating within the lens.
Congenital cataracts and developmental cataracts occur in children due to biochemical problems, infections, poor nutrition, trauma etc.
In adults ageing, uv exposure, biochemical diseases like diabetes, trauma, eye diseases inflammatory or degenerative diseases etc may lead to cataract .
Cataract is opacification of natural lens of the eye. The cause can be congenital or acquired. The most common cause is acquired, in that because of age related called as senile cataract. As the age advances because of physiological changes occurring in the eyes. The other causes for cataract are congenital causes because of hereditary or inherited conditions, injury to the eyes, metabolic diseases like diabetes mellitus, inflammations inside the eye, diseases of the eye ....

Dear Doctor, My Father got operated last Friday for Cataract and Wednesday he started complaining that he could not see from the eye. He immediately contacted the Doctor. The Doctor told us that he has got some infection and told us to contact the next day. Yesterday we showed the doctor again and he has told that this infection will take about 2-3 weeks. He hasn t told us what is the reason for infection, or what is the exact cause of the infection. He is just telling us that infection can be caused by a number of incidents. My father is also diabetic. Can anybody kindly suggest or comment on the same. This was his second Cataract operation. The first was successful with the same Doctor. Would appreciate your feedback as we all are very much worried.. Thanks and Warm Regards, Sameer.

Hello, I have a question regarding insulin resistance and dehydration. I m a Type 1 Insulin Dependent diabetic. Have been for nearly 16 years. My HA1c was last 4.9% so I keep my numbers extremely regulated. Anyways to the question, can severe dehydration lead to insulin resistance? I have some idea of the physiology but I want to understand it thoroughly. Let me give you the story first so you can maybe give me the walk through of it all especially the dehydration and insulin resistance. So after heavy drinking ( not something I do often at all....) , 6-7 hours of hard alcoholic drinks and no water during this time. I went to sleep woke up the next morning feeling very thirsty, it d been about 18 hours since I had a sip of water. So I drank some, and became nauseous. My sugars kept rising, initially was 192, ended up at 425 before I had to call 911. I was not holding down water.. my glucose was rising, I was taking massive amounts of insulin, somewhere in the 80-100 units of Humalog range. I take ~60 units in a day and this was in a matter of 12 hours probably. And my numbers did not drop. My question is why and whats the physiology behind the insulin not working? Something with the dehydration but Im not quite understand it. Please answer this if you can. Oh and I was not consuming food during this time so the glucose rise was not from carbohydrates.
