What Could Be The Cause For Severe Pain And Loss Of Breath During Coughing?

started coughing a few days ago. I was just coughing and on my left side I felt a pop at the bottom of my rib cage. severe pain, lost my breath for quite a few minutes. still in pain but it is very slowly easing up. hard to take a deep, complete breath

Hi,

Cough can cause stimulation of the voice box. Cough is basically forced expiration or exhalation of the breath. So if you cough it stimulates the voice box area.

If there is allergic inflammation of the nose and upper respiratory tract then on coughing the eustachian tube opening fails to open properly and fails to maintain air pressure between atmosphere and inside ear.

So when you cough it stimulates the voice box area, eustachian tube area and cause referred pain in the ear. So you take fluticasone nasal spray, steam inhalation.
