my 8 year old daughter has a stripe of faint freckle like spots down the centre of her chestbone, somebody mentioned it could perhaps be viral? can you help?

Yes viral cause is commoon. Other causes include- dermatitis, autoimmune disorders etc.. Take your daughter to a Pediatrician or a dermatologist.
