my mother had surgery 30 years ago for a femur

my mother had surgery 30 years ago for a femur and knee replacement, she is able to bend knee when she sits but refuses to bend when she walks, she has utilizes her good leg for assistance she is now 80 and has gained weight since she does not move around as she should, she has fallen due to her good leg giving out, My question is, Can this cause a hip fracture?
