Hi,

The reluctance of doctors to prescribe Diazepam for primary progressive MS may be due to concerns about its side effects, including potential addiction and sedation. Diazepam is a controlled substance, meaning it has a high potential for abuse and is subject to strict regulations by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Doctors may be hesitant to prescribe it due to fears of overprescribing, diversion, or misuse. However, it is not against the law for doctors to prescribe Diazepam for MS, and they must balance the potential benefits of the medication with the risks and the individual patient's needs. If you are experiencing severe symptoms and believe Diazepam could help, it is important to discuss your concerns with your doctor and work together to find the best treatment plan for you.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
