Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available described symptoms, there appears to be possibility of acute viral upper respiratory tract infection.
Presence of cough with throat irritation suggests the diagnosis.
As such there is no correlation between present symptoms and his diabetic status.
These viral infection are as common in diabetic patients as in a non diabetic person.
He should consult with internal medicine specialist and should go for thorough check up.
He should take complete antibiotic therapy, decongestants and cough suppressants.
He should avoid cold drinks, oily food, and yogurt.
He should perform gargle three times in a day; a glass of lukewarm water along with a pinch of salt.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Your husband is diabetic, I presume he is well controlled and taking treatment for diabetes regularly.
He is having acute sore throat which could be viral or bacterial secondary infection as he is having fever you can give a paracetamol tablet to give symptomatic relief.
He can take normal diabetic diet, a warm saline gargle helps and even taking hot soups will give comfort.
It is advisable to consult local Physician or ENT surgeon to examine him and prescribe proper course of antibiotics and decongestant and cough mixture as required.
In the mean time keep him well hydrated and let him take rest.
He will improve in few days time please do not worry.
Take good care
Good Luck.

Hello
well come to health care magic
Dear patient , upper respiratory tract infections which cause cough , cold and sore throat are usually due to viral infections and are self limiting illnesses and treatement consists of symptomatic treatement including anti histaminics and analgesics but as your husband is diabetic which is an immunocompromised condition, in such patients ,the viral upper respiratory tract infections may become secondarily infected with bacterial infection, and infection may even involve lower respiratory tract e.i trachea and lunga causing pneumonia or bronchitis, more over even diabetes may get out of control due to infection leadind to diabetic ketoacidosis, so you better show your husband to a doctor who will see if he has got pharyngitis or tonsillitis , wheather it is purely viral infection or has got secondarily infected with bacterial infection, wheather it is limited to upper respiratory tract only or is also involving lower respiratory tract and more ever he will also check his blood sugar to see if it is under control or is shooting up and will finally prescribe him appropriate antibiotic if necessary. Mean while he can do saline gargling and can use soft diet and use water for drinking after boiling
hope you bear out with my advice and wish your husband a speedy recovery
thanks
dr arshad
