Child Has Developed Bouts Of Cough Like Whoop, Runny Eyes And Nose, Fever. Any Suggestions?

I am very worried, my partner suspects my son has whooping cough . He is currently asleep and has been under the weather all day but his cough has developed in the last couple of hours, he has runny eyes and nose , an elevated temperature and has bouts of coughing which sound like a whoop . Do you have any suggestions? How concerned should I be? I am frightened as he is only just 2 :-(

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi
As your child is having runny nose and eyes with cough and fever it is looking like Viral illness. What is the status of your child immunization is important. If your child have received complete vaccination according the schedule whooping cough is less likely. Consult your Pediatrician for examination and the assessment of the pattern of cough and initiation of early antibiotic course if it is suggestive of whoop.
