Had a small scratch from dog, no blood transmission. Will I have to take vaccination?
Doctor good morning. I m a animal lover and specially dog lover. I always play with dogs and sometime I give them food but last 2days back (13.03.13) I given biscuit 2dogs and that time 1 dog is very exited and he move and jump to my hand her (female dog) mouth or teeth I don t know but 1 is definitely touch my finger and I think its only teeth, then I wash my hand in normal water but I can t remember that dogs mouth water touch my hand or not. Their is no bite and no blood transmission that time but now I m very scare cause before that incident my 1 finger skin little bit open I mean like old skin are remove and new skin are grow up I don t what is the name of the procedure. Now I scare if the dogs mouth water or teeth water touch my that finger place then its possible to rabies input my blood or skin? Doctor, now I have some question. Now I wait and watch the dog for 10 days, is it safe or I go to hospital for vaccination? If the dog can t die in 10 days then I m safe? Or if the dog die after 30-40 days then I m risk or 30-40days gone mean to late I think but that time if I go to hospital and doing treatment then I m safe or I m in danger? What is the time of last treatment time? Please doctor give me suggestion. I m very poor and our hospital can t give me free treatment cause I can t show them dog bite and if I go private hospital then charge are too high. Please sir I need suggestion, what should I do?

Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. However if you do not have a bite from the dog, and not even an abrasion. If you washed your hands where the dog's saliva was present on your skin it is all you need to do is to wash your hands thoroughly which I think you did and not worry about it. Also watching the dog might be a good idea but it would probably be okay with what you suggest about the kind of contact you had with the dog. If you still are fearful about what might happen, going in to a doctor and explaining this will allay your anxiety about the situation.

I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!
