Wound On The Leg Which Is Deep. Need A Tetanus Shot?

My 16 year old son was swimming in a friend s salt water pool yesterday. The ladder broke and my son s leg was scraped. There is a portion that is a little deep, but it doesn t concern me or even really need a band-aide. Should he have a tetanus shot? I wouldn t even ask, except that the ladder had rusted through and that s why it broke.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Transmission of tetanus is common through injuries over contaminated soil. However, if your child is not vaccinated for tetanus previously then it is better to have tetanus shot now.
Take Care!
