Would A CT Scan Show An Aneurysm After A Head Injury?

About 3 weeks ago, I had 3 wooden plauqes (weighing ten lbs) fall on my head from about 2 feet above me, I didnt lose consciousness, went to the emergency room and had a cat scan that came back negative, no swelling and no bleeding. I had a constant headache and ended up back in the emergency room last night to have it rechecked. They redid the cat scan and its still negative, is there a possibility it could be aneurysm and would that show up on a cat scan?

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. The CT scan of head is not a good investigation to pick aneurysm. It is good to detect bleed caused by aneurysm rupture or due to any other reason.

Aneurysm rupture causes bleed between brain and its covering layer arachnoid which is known as subarachnoid haemorrhage. This bleeding causes very severe headache which is described as "the worst headache of life". This headache is usually associated with vomiting, blurred vision, loss of consciousness.

Unraptured aneurysm usually cause headache when large in size (>2cm). This type of headache is mild, dull aching, not associated with vomiting/loss of consciousness, occurs in episodes, usually ignored by patients.

Coming to diagnosis, aneurysm is best detected by 3D-CT or MR angiography of brain vessels.

Your constant headache could be due to other reason like

: tension headache
: hypertensive headache
: migraine
: headache due to head injury

It can be confirmed if you can provide more details of your headache by asking another question or you can consult doctor for it.

Hope it will help you. Thanks. Take care.
