Working Continuous Night Shifts, Feeling Sleepy At Night, Straining Myself To Stay Awake. Health Hazards?

Hello Doctor, My age is 34 years. I am working in a BPO sector. For the past 2 to 3 months I am working in continous night shifts, starting from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am. After 12:30 pm I feel sleepy, but somehow I strain myself and manage to complete my working hours. I want to know whether the night shift jobs are applicable to the human community. Do any health hazards will happen while working in continous night shift works? Please tell me any advisable tips to overcome the hazards faced by the night shift works. The tips which the night shift workers have to follow.

Hello!
Human body is designed to work during day and sleep at night. The melatonin , a hormone for maintaining your sleep rhythm, increases during night to make us sleep and decreases at day to make us awake. But the current change in the work culture makes it essential to work in shifts both day and night. This change in the work surely has deleterious effects on the health. The tips which you an still follow is take adequate sleep during the day time, make your room dark while sleeping. work in a place which is brightly lit, eat health food and exercise daily. There are some medications which can help you to work at night like Modafinil or Armodafinil. However they shouldnt be used unless you have expired all your other options.
Hope I am able to solve your concerns.
Have a nice day (or night I suppose!)
