Hello,
although your question is not clear enough regarding the timeline of the events, I'll try to address the medical issues.
First of all all blood thinners may cause bleeding (including bleeding in the brain, which is usually fatal). Xarelto is no exception. That's why doctors try to assess patients for bleeding risk before prescribing it to them. For example patients older than 65, with
liver disease, history of bleeding (particularly
brain hemorrhage), etc have a higher risk for bleeding than the rest of the population. In case the bleeding risk is significant, the doctor has to decide which risk is the most important (that is the bleeding risk or the risk for
thrombosis).
So if your doctor has failed to do the assessment then perhaps there is ground for legal action. If the doctor has done a proper assessment and using xarelto was justified then it's just bad luck and not the doctor's fault at all... Doctors can't predict side effects but they have to do whatever it takes to reduce the risk. Perhaps the best course of action would be to take your husband's medical files and show them to another doctor for a thorough assessment.
I did not quite understand why the doctor first prescribed xarelto and then advised him to stop it; this is an important detail...
I hope you find my comments helpful!
Kind Regards!
