Will 'vitcofol' Help In Treating Low B-12 Levels?

my brother in law suffers from depression. he was on anti depresent tablets for some time now. now upon investigation from another doctor it was found that his osterone was 261.3 & B-12 was 113.7, so the doctor has now put him on Nexito Plus - 1 at night for a month, Testovron 100 mg 1 in 15 days for a month & Vitcofol 2 ML 1 weekly. is the diagnosis right?

Good evening and thank you for coming to HCM where our job is not to diagnose, but to guide our clients in making better health care choices. The Vitcofol is indicated to treat certain types of anemia, including B12. In many cases not only is the low B12 treated, but folate deficiency is treated in conjunction. This is done because treatment with B12 with an unidentified folate deficiency can result in poor medical outcomes. So, despite Vitcofol having more than just B12, the other nutrients are included for optimal outcome of the treatment for the anemia. The dosage is highly individualized and best determined by your personal physician.

Nexitro is an antidepressant of the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor, or SSRI, category used to treat depression. The Testovron is being given to treat a low testosterone.

A low B 12 can contribute to depression so perhaps correcting this deficiency will assist in the depression recovery/control. Finding the most effective anti-depressant is not always easy with trial and error being frequent.

I hope I have answered your question satisfactorily. Kathryn J. Shattler, MS,RDN
