Will The Physical Therapy Aggravate The Costochondritis Condition?

I had arthroscopic left shoulder surgery 5 weeks ago. I started physical therapy 4 weeks ago. Last week I was diagnosed by my GP with costochondritis. I have consulted my surgeon for advice on how to proceed with physical therapy and he has referred back to the physical therapy dept. My question is, should I be continuing to rehab my shoulder or will this aggravate my costochondritis.

Hi thanks for asking question.

Usually costochondritis resolve within few days by its own.

Rest is advisable in costochondritis, but as you have shoulder surgery physiotherapy of shoulder joint is also necessary.

You can take ibuprofen for costochondritis.

Gentle stretching exercise for chest muscle also useful.

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation also latest procedure for it.It can be done if needed according to your physician.

So continue with physiotherapy and drugs with healthy nutrition.

Wish you good health..
