Will The Menstrual Cycle Be Postponed Post Intake Of Marvelon?

I had a condom slip up on the 8th day of my cycle. We were not sure if the ejaculate was in me or not but took Marvelon (4+4) as ECP with first dose at 3 hours after deed and the next one 12 hours later. I had a period (?) 7 days later, two weeks before my actual due date. Felt like a normal period. I took a PT on the actual period due date (21 days after deed) which was negative. Now it has been one month after ECP and three weeks after ECP bleeding. Will my period date now be 28-30 days after ECP bleed? I am usually very regular and this is stressing me out.

Hi,

You have explained your question very well and I can understand your concern. You took the right decision about taking the emergency contraceptive pill. These pills work by altering the hormonal levels to prevent pregnancy. As menstrual cycles depend on the hormone levels, cycles change too and so the dates of your menstrual bleeding. It is very common finding to get menstrual bleeding after 2 weeks of emergency contraceptive pill. As of now, your cycle has changed and you should expect menstrual bleeding after a month of ECP bleeding, that is one week from now.

As you are stressing out too much, there are chances of early or delayed menstrual bleeding. If they do not occur after 10 days of expected date, you should consult a gynecologist for further investigations.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you good health!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
