Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi there,

your nephrologist is correct if he is stating that the Radio-Contrast dye used for Angiographic examination during angioplasty may worsen the Kidney Function.
But, as you have stated that your father's Coronary Angiography has already been done showing 3 blocks (? a triple vessel disease with heavily calcified vessels) an Coronary - Byepass Graft Surgery should be the treatment of choice and it should not impair the kidney function, in any way !

So, if it is essential you may very well go ahead with CABG (Byepass)!

Even for Coronary Angiography/-plasty of a person with slightly deranged renal function, there are several measures that may be taken to minimize the development of what is called 'Contrast - Induced Nephropathy.

One is preference of a "non-ionic dye' with minimum contrast exposure time. Other is use of N-Acetylcyisteine duringand after the procedure.

Hope this information is useful for you.
