Will The Blood In Urine Be Due To Bladder Cancer?

I am 43 years old and was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate 3 years ago. I also have been self catheterizing since I was a child. Last year the urologist found a trace of blood in my urine but no infection. Should I be coneeded about bladder cancer because I have over the years had incidents of blood clots in my urine.

Hello dear user!
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns!
Thank you for sharing them on healthcaremagic.
Since you have a prostate enlargement, and a history of self catheterization from a long time, the most common possibilities of your blood in urine are:
- Trauma of the urethra of bladder from the catheter insertion
- Prostate enlargement and damage of it
- Urinary infection
- Bladder polyps and malign diseases
Basing on your history you are more prone to have urinary infections, urine retention, increased possibility of bladder stones, and their complications too.
Anyway to rule out all these hypotheses you have to go though some test and examinations.
I would recommend you:
- Complete urine analysis
- Urinary tract ultrasound
- Intravenous urography if your urologist sees it reasonable.
I hope this answer was helpful to you!
Please kindly rate it as helpful and write a short review about your experience with me! I would appreciate that a lot.
Thank you and best regards!
