Will Taking Thyroxine Help Cure Hypothyroidism?

Hello,
I am 28 years old weighing 150 lbs and 5ft 1in height. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2008 and have been taking 100 mcg thyroxine sodium tablets. I had a baby recently (4 months old) and the doctor lowered my thyroid medication to 88 mcg since my tsh was low. I am having low milk supply suddenly( after being on the lowered dosage for 3 weeks ). My supply was doing fine till then. My lactation consultant is suspecting the lowered dosage as the cause for the supply issue. Can I go back to 100 mcg till I breastfeed?

Hello and welcome!
Thank you for asking on HCM.
To see if the levothyroxine dose is the proper one we check the TSH level. This is the only indicator of levothyroxine dose.
If the last TSH was You may recheck the TSH to exclude any laboratory mistakes ( it may happen) and if it is still confirmed low, lower the dose.
Hope the information is helpful and feel free to contact again if you will have any query.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
