Will taking Antihistamines and Decongestant help relive cold and cough?

I went into a extremly moldy house last week. Shortly after I begin to have itchy throat. I now have sinus pressure, post nasal drip, runny nose, coughing, lower back pain. I have been taking antihistamines and decongestant combos. It has helped some but it has been going on for 3-4 days. The back pain started today.

Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history, I assume that you have allergies to molds and would like to make suggestions for you as follows:

1. I usually prescribe my such patients montelukast and an antihistamine like cetirizine, levocetirizine or fexofenadine for 7-14 days.

2. I usually do not prescribe decongestant drops for more than 3 days to avoid possibility of rebound rhinitis.

3. I would also suggest you regular steam inhalation (please be cautious to avoid burns) and warm saline gargles.

4. Please avoid exposure to dusts, smokes and air pollution as much as possible and ensure adequate ventilation and sunlight exposure to reduce indoor mold concentration.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish you the best of the health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
