Hello and welcome,
I understand the situation.
Please do not think so much about things that we cannot control. We cannot control the occurrence of eclampsia. However we can be vigilant and more careful. So irrespective of it occurs or not, just be careful and have good antenatal care.
Now about the blood pressure:
A blood pressure of 166/112 at 17 weeks is not preclampsia. Preclampsia occurs after 20 mostly 24 weeks. Also a reading of 154/89 is also elevated reading. It must be below 140/90 to be termed as normal. So this is either
essential hypertension [ blood pressure raised prior to
pregnancy and continuing now] or
renal hypertension [ raised blood pressure due to
kidney problems or some other cause precipitating hypertension like
hormonal causes.
Any ways, if the urine is smelling bad: most likely it is an infection. So please get a urine test and culture test to see for the organism and take antibiotics after consulting your doctor.
Stress also raises the blood pressure. So calm down. take regular morning and evening walks for 2 weeks, eat a low fat, low salt diet [ home cooked, no outside food as it has very high salts, avoid salt completely if possible], eat at least 2 fruits every day. Check the blood pressure after 2 weeks to see if it goes down. If it does, maybe it was transient stress that caused the raised Blood pressure.
After the urine infection clears, get it tested for proteins [ they will come positive during infection as infection itself causes proteins in urine]. Also discuss with your doctor, get a renal doppler and
thyroid test as well as all investigation of preclampsia for future comparison. If the blood pressure remains elevated you may need drugs to control the blood pressure.
With regular antenatal care and treatment you will do well. Just do not stress, many women have it and have healthy babies. If you worry, BP will increase and we do not want that to happen. So just try the lifestyle measures and clear the infection and most likely the BP will come down.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Thanks for using HCM.
