Will Contraceptive Pills Cause Bleeding?

Hi, i had intercourse one day after my period ended , we used proctection but just to be safe i took postinor 2 about 12 hours later. Now six days after taking postinor2, i had bleeding just like if it was a normal period. Should i be worried, does it means the pill worked and im not pregnant?

Hi,

Hormonal contraceptives can cause some bleeding at unexpected times. Such bleeding is not dangerous and you should expect it to normalise by itself by the time of your next cycle.Do not worry. Pregnancy can only be ruled out by tests taken at least 7 to 10 days after missed period.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General and Family Physician
