Will Blood Pressure Medication Cause Depression?

My father had been taking 20 mg of Lisinopril for hypertension for years. In December his doctor upped the prescription to 40 mg and added Losartan. Since then he has been experiencing an extreme paranoia and some depression. Is it possible that this is being caused by the blood pressure medication?

hi,
The drug lisinopril belongs to the class ACE inhibitors. studies have implicated them in causation of depression. You can view the article:
(Psychiatry- Dec 2008; 5(12): 28–41;General Medical Drugs Associated with Depression).
Also, recent evidence suggested 'against' the use of losartan combined with ace inhibitors.
In either case, you need to get a change over of prescription, as there are many other alternatives like ca blockers and diuretics. Consult your doctor again.
hope this helped.
