Will I Regain The Strength Of The Leg After Scooping Out A Portion Of Rectus Femoris Muscle Above The Knee Due To Infection?

due to an infection my Ortho surgeon had to scoop out a portion of my Rectus Femoris Muscle above the knee. My question is, will I regain the strength with such a surgery? I exercise daily and go to PT. It's been 2 months and I can't support my weight on that leg alone. I'm 57 yo and right le was amputated ak this summer due to infection of 3 knee replacements over 2 years

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

This is just to let you know that Rectus femoris muscle forms a strong "conjoined" tendon (Quadriceps tendon) along with 3 other muscles. So, simply scooping out a small portion of the rectus component will not interfere with the extensor mechanism of the knee joint.

I personally don't think that it is going to affect your activities of daily living to a serious extent.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
