Why There Is A Swelling In The Joint Of My Middle Finger?

I have noticed an area of swelling just above the middle joint of the middle finger of my left hand. It s at the side of the finger and disperses when pressure is applied coming back slowly after a short time. What causes this and should I be concerned?
