Why The Pimple Re-appear When Medicine Stops?

sir my age is 21yrs..i am suffering from acne.i had many medicines .but the only one that worked for me was TRETIVA ,but again when i left the medicine the pimples reappeared.it is really making my confidence low.my face is oily and have lots of blackheads on my nose.few of the medicines that were prescribed were..speelac face wash gel, clinmax gel,and few tablets that were mostly to control the growth of bacteria.what can be done to actually control the excessive oil produced due to the hormonal changes.....?

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Acne is a recurrent condition and once your acne is brought under good control with oral and topical antiacne medicines, you should still continue to use a topical retinoid (tretinoin/tretiva) for maintenance of improvement.

Topical retinoids are ideal for maintenance of improvement because they are comedolytic as well as antiinflammatory, thereby preventing the formation of new acne.

Oily skin or seborrhea/excess oil production is due to overactivity of sebaceous glands.

You could use a salicylic acid based face wash (Speelac). Salicylic acid dries up the excess oil.

However, for seborrheia, oral retinoids e.g Isotretinoin works best. The dose is 5 mg once daily and there mechanism of action is by reducing the size of sebaceous glands. Just 1 month therapy is enough to reduce the size and secretion to 10 % to what it used to be previously.

However, these are prescription drugs and it is advisable to consult a dermatologist before trying them.
