Why Some Spots From Herpes Zoster Still Hurt Sometime ?
Hi My mom got herpe zoster last September , she's got better now with some medications. But there are three small dots (size of a rice) which left from the debases on her upper leg. Those dots still hurt some time. Besides, she lost weight because of the sickness. She is around 80 lb and has small appetite. I assume her immune system has also impaired.
Can I get some more treatment or any medications for her. Thank you so much
I can understand your concern for spots from herpes zoster still hurt sometime in your mother. After reading your query it appears that your mother is suffering form post herpetic neuralgia.
In post herpetic neuralgia the pain remains for a long period of time and is quite distressing for the patient.
The only precaution you must follow is not to touch, pinch pop or squeeze any of them other wise it can get infected and can cause complications.
If I were your treating dermatologist then would have prescribed to take either gabapentin or amitriptyline by mouth in appropriate doses. These are the preferred drugs for this type of pain.
Additionally I would have prescribed to take Vitamin B12 or cyanocobalamine daily for two times. Do not worry you will be alright soon.
All the best. Take care.
