Why Is Newborn Being Kept For Observation?

My friend s grandson was born three weeks ago..he was 7lbs 2 oz..all signs were normal, Apgar at 9 & 8...they said the baby had a low rbc and needed to stay for observation. He is still there..eating and growing..why would they keep him so long if he is thriving?

Hi

Welcome to the HCM

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. The weight and Apgar of your grandson is good and as per your description, the clinical condition also seems to be fine. But I can suggest you the reason for his persistent stay at hospital only after I come to know the exact case summary along with his laboratory reports.

I would be glad to help you. You may post your query along with reports as direct question to me.

Take care
