Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Divakara's Response
HI
Thanks for posting your query.
Weight gain with Irregular periods are suggestive of two conditions :
1. Hypothyroidism : Is a disease where the production of Thyroid hormones is less.
2. Polycystic Ovarian Disease : Where there occurs multiple water bubble like lesions in the ovaries which causes hormonal changes and results in weight gain and irregular or stopping of periods.
Also one more condition is Diabetes Mellites. This condition can cause weight gain, increased frequency of urination but not stopping of periods .
I would recommend you get her tested for all these conditions and revert back with reports.
Serum TSH, Fasting and postprandial blood sugars and Ultrasound Abdomen Pelvis.
Hope this information was useful to you. Any clarification feel free to ask .
Regards.
