Why Is My Tonsils Swollen, Red And Painful?

I took penicillin TID for the past week for strep throat, prescribed by my doctor.. Took my last dose yesterday morning. My tonsils are still swollen, red, & it is very very painful to swallow. I am very concerned there is something more serious going on. What do you think is going on & What should I do?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hi,
3 possibilities.
1) its a viral infection hence will not respomd to any antibiotic.
2) bacteria is resistant to the antibiotic.
3) complication like peritonsillar abscess.
please see an ENT as soon as possible for a diagnosis and management.
regards,
Dr Rajkishori Godhi.
