Why Is My Tongue Swollen?

Hello. I was wondering if you can tell me why my tongue is swollen... I smoked Crystal Meth on Wednesday night, and my last toke was at 12.30pm yesterday. I have gone through the come down, but now my tongue is super swollen to the point that it causes difficulty eating. Thanks, Catherine.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention in query occurring due to taking of meth crystal .

The meth crystal leads to dehydration and dry mouth which is responsible for swollen tongue .

Along with it meth has other harmful effects also like difficulty in speech , damage of peridontal fiber of tooth which makes the tooth mobile , damage of gingiva and sweating.

I would suggest you to :-

- Quit taking meth crystal .

- Take plenty of water ( at least 8 glasses daily ) . Keep yourself hydrate.

- Take benadryl .

- Do bet-dine gargles 2-3 times daily .

Consult oral pathologist for proper diagnosis and to rule out causes like fordyc's granules . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics for infection or artificial saliva substitute .

Maintain proper oral hygiene .

hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
