Why Is My Sons Underwears Always Stained With Fecal Discharge And Blood?
My son is 15 years old. He needs to change his underwear a few times a day as they are always stained with feces (smelly) and discharge and the last several times blood. What could be the cause. He has normal formed stools once daily. It s becoming concerning.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, The problem with your son suggests an intestinal infection which involves blood & mucus containing scanty/frequent stools. As a 15 years old boy soils his cloths, it seems to be with pain & uncontrolled motion. Please get his stools examined for routine & microscopic study. It will reveal causative organism. mostly it would be amoebic/bacterial infection. consult a physician/gastroenterologist for specific medicines( Antibiotics/anti amoebics, anti spasmodic drugs are given as per need) . Give him light nutritious food, plenty of boiled water, use of ORS will help him. A course of lactobasillus helps normalization of GI tract. Thanks.
