Why Is My Legs And Arms Turning Inward During Jerks?

Hi, since the age of 14 years, my son has suffered from a condition which some doctors say are seizures and a CT scan and MRI have not shown anything amiss, nor did bloods taken for a calcium deficiency which our doctor initially thought could have been the problem. These 'spasms" he has affect one side of his whole body including his mouth. His body seems to twist abnormally. His arm and leg turns inward and his head jerks. These last for around 10 seconds and they are hindering his life.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

Based on the description, your son seems to be suffering from partial or focal seizures. Arms and legs may twist inwards during these seizures.

MRI and CT brain may be normal in seizures.

Your son needs to be started on anti-epileptic drugs such as carbamazepine or levetiracetam to control the seizures. After that, his quality of life can be greatly improved.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
