Why Is My Body Stretching During Sleep?

I wake up several times during the night because my entire body is doing a soontaneous whole body stretch. My BP has been a little high and I have a slight heart murmur. What is causing this stretching in the middle of the night, it wakes me up? It happens several times!

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms may be related to an electrolyte imbalance or a sleep disorder.

I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical exam and some blood lab tests (complete blood count, blood electrolytes, thyroid hormone levels, fasting glucose).

A polysomnography would be necessary to exclude a possible sleep disorder.

An EEG could also be helpful detect possible seizures.

Hope to have been helpful!
Best wishes,
Dr. Aida
