Why Is Liver Biopsy Done For Nodules And Fungus In The Lungs?
Good afternoon my mom was diagnoses with the bird fungus last year and took strong antibiotics. They removed a slither of her lung. Her spleen was also very enlarged. That was in January of 2014. Today she is having a biopsy, they are thinking she has lymphoma. Her spleen is still enlarged, she has spots on her lungs and some nodes are also enlarged. They biopsied her liver, can you explain to me why they would biopsy the liver? She also continues to loose weight and she is not well.

Why Is Liver Biopsy Done For Nodules And Fungus In The Lungs?
Hello, The reason for the liver biopsy is to find out the hematogenous (via blood) spread of the underlying pathological condition of fungi. It is the drainage areas and primary immune responders as spleen and lymph nodes which get enlarged during the fighting of infection by the body. It is the immune compromise stage which makes the patient prone to various further anatomic insults, leukemia or lymphoma development as well. However, there can be complex issues concerning the same and I would love to assist further with the details of relevant information. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
