Why Is A Low Hemoglobin Level Critical In A Baby?

hello, gd afternoon doctors. I have a query regarding my kid. He is 15 months old and as per the blood report his hemoglobin level was 5. He is having food other than breast milk. He is very active. Doctors say its a concern area and iron suppliments are given. How long does it takes for the level to increase and is it really critical.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The hemoglobin is dangerously low and it will affect normal growth and development of the baby. Iron supplements must be given at least six to eight months to reach the desired level.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family physician
