Why Having Continuous Milky Pink Discharge After Initial Bleeding After Abortion?

I recently had an abortion a week and a half ago and I had the initial heavy bleeding and that has stopped but I've had continous milky pink/red/yellow discharge. It comes out in long strands. I have no pain or cramps so is this normal? What is still "cleaning/shedding" for this discharge to happen?

Hello and welcome,

I am Dr Madhuri a gynecologist and will be answering your query.

The milky discharge is most likely a infection. This may happen sometime after abortion. So I suggest that you see your doctor immediately and get a cervical swab culture done. An ultrasound may be needed to look for pus in the uterus.
Antibiotics will help cover the infection though a surgical procedure may be needed sometimes to remove the pus.

Other cause may be a cervical erosion or polyp but is less likely considering the history.

Hope this satisfies your query.
Thanks for using HCM.
