Why Having Aggressive Hair Loss When Having Minoxidil For Androgentic Alopecia?
I have been diagnosed with Androgentic Alopecia... I was given the Minoxidil and have been using it daily as presscribed. However in the past few weeks I have noticed an agressive hair loss and I am very concerned that there is something else going on since I also have Vitiligo another Autoimmune Disorder. I take a multivitamin, biotin, b complex and an omega 3. I am just not quite sure what do because I feel there is something else going on and that can be done.
Increased hair fall in the beginning of therapy with Minoxidil could be explained by a phenomena known as Anagen Surge. Minoxidil is a non-specific hair growth promoter, and it cuts short the telogen phase of hair growth cycle(resting phase) and cause it to transform to Anagen phase (which is the growth phase of hair cycle). In the process the new hair growth that is stimulated by minoxidil pushes out resting hair(telogen hair) which is manifested as increased hair shedding in the beginning of therapy with minoxidil. This is known as Anagen surge and usually lasts for a few days. This is actually a good sign, indicating new hair growth.
