Why Does My Left Ear Occasionally Have An Area That Feels Numb ?

Why does my left ear occasionally have an area that feels numb? The area is around the top, on the outter part of the ear. What could be the cause of this? I don t experience any pain, and the numbness comes and goes several times daily. I ve not suffered any type of injury or trauma.

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
1. Sensation to the outer ear (Pinna / AUricle) is supplied by many nerves.
2. Based on the sensory nerve supply of the top of the pinna / auricle, which is via the Greater Auricular Nerve and the Lesser Occipital Nerve, I will suggest that you get investigated for pressure on these nerves which arise from the C2,C3 level of the Cervical Plexus.
3. Treatment will be necessary only if this is progressive or worsening.
