Why Does A Baby Possess A Large Abdomen?

My baby girl is 16 months old. From birth she has had a large abdomen. She has a cylinder shape hernia from sternum to belly button. Doctors told me it would dissapear when her muscles get stronger but I think it s actually getting worst. It s sticking out looking unnatural. What can this mean? thank you

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hello,

By what you say I feel that your kid may be having divarication of recti. I would suggest getting an ultrasound abdomen done and if no intestinal contents in the hernia like appearance then - you can stay assured, please.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Sumanth Amperayani, Pediatrician, Pulmonology
