Why Do I Have Swelling Persistently After Suffering Knee Injury?

I had a knee injury about couple of months back. X-Ray stated no bone injury. After a suspected ligament injury i was asked to take an MRI. MRI says that all seems to be normal except for partial distruption of ACL ligament at proximal location. Also reported some minor bone bruise (not sure what it is). Doctor had adviced me to take maximum rest with some pain killers. Now even after two months there seems to be a slight swelling and i cannot climb stairs. though i can walk slowly.. but can t bend my right knee completely (can t squat). Doctor has suggested some exercies to tight and loosen the knee cap often. Doctor says that this will take about 3 - 4 months to heal. Then we will have to take another MRI to confirm if ligament tear is there otherwise, it should heal by itself since it is only partial rupture. I am a 35yr old male. Please let me know how long it will take to complete heal.

Hi,

Ligament disruption usually takes 6 months time to get relieved. But the pain may come back even after that if pressure is put like running etc. Rest is mandatory. Though its less injury than a fracture, it takes more time to get back to normal.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
